'Collie Nose' is a Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE) which is an autoimmune disease. Though it is known as Collie nose it is not indigenous to the Collie breed (border collie, sheltie collies) as it also appears in the Shetland Sheepdog and any mixed breed farm shepherd type dogs or beagles.
If left untreated due to the lack of pigment at birth and suseptible immune system, it can then lead to a gradual removal of the nose pad resulting eventually in ulcers which can also lead to squamous cell carcinoma.
